About Stonehaven
My grandmother started the whole thing in Albany in 1971. She had a small workshop off Stirling Terrace where she sold hand-thrown pottery and locally milled jarrah pieces to whoever walked in off the street. My mum took it over in 1994, moved the focus toward tableware and homewares, and built up a loyal following across the Great Southern region. I grew up sweeping floors, packing orders, and learning which suppliers were worth driving three hours to Bunbury for and which ones weren't. By the time I finished school, I'd already done two seasons helping at the Margaret River Gourmet Escape market stall. The business was in my blood before I had any say in the matter.
Before I formally took over, I spent about six years doing my own thing. I studied design in Melbourne, worked for a fit-out company in Fitzroy for three years, and then came back to WA to help Mum when Dad had his health scare in 2017. What I found when I got back was a business that still had real heart but was running the same stock it had in 2009. The website was barely functional. The supplier list hadn't been updated in years. Mum had kept everything alive through sheer stubbornness and her regulars at the Albany Farmers Market, but growth had completely stalled. She knew it too. We had a lot of honest conversations over that summer.
